Bay of Mont Saint-Michel at Low Tide, Normandy, France — At low tide the bay retreats to expose vast sand and mud flats that can stretch for 15 kilometers, making the mount accessible on foot as it was for medieval pilgrims. The bay is home to one of Europe's largest populations of migratory shorebirds and is an Important Bird Area recognized by BirdLife International.
